Exploring the Everglades

The Everglades has an immense footprint in South Florida, taking up 1.5 million acres of the Florida wetlands. Because the park is so big, it is important to plan your trip ahead if you would like to visit the area. There are three different ways to get into the park in South Florida.

All of the areas of the park have a wide range of activities available for those that go to take part in. Sawgrass Recreation Area is a great place to go for a true Everglades experience. There is a great deal of wildlife to be seen. They even have airboat rides to get you up close and personal with alligators and other animals that venture out and about when the boat is passing by. If the boat isn’t close enough for you, you may get the opportunity to hold a baby alligator when you are back on dry land. For those that want to stay a bit longer, camping and fishing are also options.

In the Everglades, there are really only two seasons. These are the dry and wet seasons. The dry season runs from November to March, and the wet season runs from April to November. The busiest season is the dry season because the warm winters attract birds and other animals that may want to snack on them! In the wet season, bugs run rampid, and many ranger programs are not offered. Check ahead of time to ensure that you are able to do what you are planning.

When visiting the Everglades, you will see many different types of vegetation in addition to the wildlife. There are freshwater sloughs, mangrove, cypress, tropical hammocks, marine, estuarine, and coastal lowlands in addition to other offerings! There is something to see no matter what direction you are looking. Evergladestours.com will give you a plethora of options for things to do while you are visiting the Everglades, and you will not be disappointed!

While it is an interesting and exciting area to visit, it is important to make sure you are safe. After all, you are in the midst of wildlife! Take into account your personal fitness level when you are deciding what to do at the park. Hiking, biking, and paddling through the Everglades can be a bit difficult for those with physical limitations. Knowing the terrain is also imperative. Familiarize yourself with the area before taking a jaunt down a hiking trail or bike path. Always keep gPS handy, just in case. For any outdoor activity, bring plenty of water, insect repellent, sunscreen, and proper clothing. Small children need to be supervised! When around wildlife and large bodies of water, you have to keep eyes on your children at all times. In most areas of the pak, pets are not allowed. Leave them at home, not in your parked car in the high temperatures.

There are countless areas of the Everglades to explore, and they are waiting just for you! Visit Evergladestours.com to plan your trip to Sawgrass Recreation Area today.
