Earth Day and Everglades Airboat Tours

Sawgrass Recreation Park hosted an Earth Day Awareness Event: Earth Day in the Glades! The event was held on Saturday, April 20th, 2013 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the park located at 1006 North U.S. Highway 27, Weston, FL. The event included a meet and greet with the stars of Swamp Men on Nat Geo Wild, Gus “Onebear” and Jonathan “Cattail”. Eco-friendly craft projects, a bounce house, educational talks, and food trucks were among the other highlights of the event! Florida’s top bluegrass band, “Bungled and Botched” was also there to perform songs from their new CD, “Wings”. Food trucks in attendance were: Kona Ice, Xtreme Overload, Catered Bliss, Mojo on the Go and Joe Snow.
This event served as a fundraiser to benefit The Everglades Foundation. The foundation is dedicated to leading efforts to restore and protect the Everglades ecosystem. Funds raised by the Foundation are used for scientific research, advancing understanding of the Everglades and to provide grants to their conservation partners. Through environmental leadership, scientific expertise and policy experience, the Everglades Foundation works to protect and restore America’s Everglades. We want to keep your Everglade Airboat Tours as beautiful as possible!
Revenue from a silent auction and other areas of collected donations raised over six hundred dollars ($600) for the local charity. Some of the donations for the silent auction were provided by Costco, Travel Genie, Bonaventure Resort and Spa, Whole Foods, Doubletree Sunrise, Crowne Plaza Hollywood Beach, Welcome & Bienvenidos Magazine, Sunrise Paddleboards, Historic Tours of America, Canoe Outpost-Peace River, Jungle Queen Riverboat, Melting Pot Ft. Lauderdale, St. Augustine Scenic Cruise and Ultimate Florida Tours to name a few.
More than seven hundred (700) guests came out to support the charity and to participate in the fun events. Due to the high level of participation for this event and its great level of success, Sawgrass Recreation Park hopes to make this an annual event.
