The Best Everglades Airboat Tours Are Ecologically Friendly

Within the last 6 months, Sawgrass Recreation Park has partnered with the Ritz Carlton of Miami to offer guests an opportunity to experience their Everglade Airboat Tours and to give back to this vibrant ecosystem which suffered great damage from Hurricane Wilma in 2005. With a canopy loss of almost 70%, Sawgrass has hopes that this program along with raising awareness will help bring back the native plants in the next 10-15 years.

The “Give Back Getaway” Program allows guests from the Ritz Carlton in Miami to enjoy the 30 minute airboat ride along with the exhibits at the park: Alligator and Reptile, Wildlife, and Swamp Yard exhibits. In addition, the program includes one hour of planting native plants to help restore areas that were damaged in the storm. In the past, guests have contributed to the new Butterfly Garden as well as planted within the tortoise enclosure. The tortoises enjoy munching on healthy greens and plants like the Florida Native hibiscus. This helps the park sustain a natural food source for the them.

The price of the program is only $35 per guest plus tax. This includes the airboat excursion, animal exhibits as well as all materials necessary for planting. $5 from each tour is donated to the Wildlife Care Center to help with the care, feeding and rescue of many animals in South Florida.
